The 5 minute review
AT MMBC our approach is very different. For example, we had a situation recently that only took a few moments to solve but increased the company’s productivity enormously. In this particular case the company was suffering from staff absences through sick leave and stress, and management had no spare time even to discuss their problems with us.
We asked for permission to visit the office to meet the company owner, shake his hand, pass out our business cards and leave. We were there for five minutes. During that brief visit we saw:
- Reception left unattended
- Office untidy – files stacked everywhere
- Computers switched on for all to see, but unattended
- Drab colour scheme
- Poor design
- Phones ringing unattended
- Building signage unclear
Whilst in the car I sent an email listing the following solutions:
- To outsource the telephone answering system.
- To install a database to store all business information and scan on/shredding process.
- All files to be stored in fireproof cabinets – make use of information on database.
- Ensure computers are locked when left.
- Redesign cheaply the offices and suggest a brighter colour scheme.
- Suggest pictures/ potted trees / flowers to brighten up
- Suggest new branded signs for image identification.
The company took our advice and has seen a major improvement in productivity and staff morale. And they rang me back before I left their car park.
